Replacing Starter, Striped Bolts

What started out as a simple task of looking for a current fuel leak turned into trying to replace the starter which did not go well. The two bolts holding the starter in are striped pretty bad. Vice grip won't work, open end wrench won't work, and the head on the ratchet is too large to get in the space! Anyone have any suggestions or ideas, I spent way to long on this and got nowhere.

Get a 6 point socket and some extensions (wobble type work well) so the head of the ratchet is out past the end of the starter and you should be able to get them. By the way there is a third bolt on the top out of sight.

Good call on the wobble type extension. Could not get the top bolt out until I tried this. Thanks.........you guys rock!

I have used THIS SET from Craftsman for several bolts in various places. It may help you out as well.

about the top starter bolt

Here is a trick I have used a few times now and it is a dream come true, what you do is get a bolt that is about 10" long with treads the same as the starter bolt, run a nut all the way on, then you can start the bolt and get it tight with ease, as I said I have done it more then once, I have checked them and was always still tight. enjoy
