Well my understanding is that the center hose is the fill hose and the outer hose is the vent that spits fuel in your face when the tank gets within a couple of gallons of full. If you remove the center hose then I am not sure how the system will vent. It may be better or worse. Thanks for the link I will read it.

Does anyone have installation instructions for this RDS gravity feed kit? How does the check valve work?

The directions didn't come with the kit? E-mail or call RDS Aluminum and I'm sure they'd send another one or e-mail you one. sales@rdsaluminum.com or call them at: 1-800-292-6898.

Figure 5 of the paper I posted above shows a decent pic how it installs. Basically cut the fuel fill hose at a convenient place, removing enough for the RDS fuel fill tee to fit. Make sure the overflow valve is on top (shown on top center in Figure 5). Note I made mine as low as possibe to get the most pressue through the fuel filter I installed.

Before you install the tee with it's overflow valve, take apart the valve and make sure the ball isn't gummed up with grease or whatever. I found mine that way and cleaned it up before installing. Use the blue Permatex instant gasket maker to seal the pipe thread when you put it back.

The way the overflow valve works is that fuel from the aux fuel tank fills the OEM tank until it gets to the overflow valve. Then the ball floats inside the overflow valve, shutting off fuel flow from the aux fuel tank preventing it from overfilling. This valve is important to both the safety and legality of the gravity flow kit; don't bypass it or render it useless.

Good luck.

Well it sounds like it will work ok. I am an engineer as well so I want to make sure I am not buying a kluge. It sounds like the valve is a custom valve and not an off-the-self item they have repackaged. Did you ever find out about those dual tank solenoid valves and how much they cost? I looked around for one but just about all of them were near $100.

No, I never bothered, the 3/8" ball valve I open and close to "refuel" has worked, I see no need to change it.

Were you able to get the instructions from RDS? I got your e-mail, but I installed mine three years ago and couldn't find the ones that came with my kit. I've e-mailed RDS a couple times, they were pretty responsive, give them a call.

Good luck.
