Hey all,I need a gem module for my 2000 f250.ive been searching and reading and my eyes are about to pop out.my part # is F81B-14B205 EN. I can't find that exact # anywhere. The parts I find have the same numbers except for the last 2 letters.i know I'm looking for a replacement that has the same options, in my case 2000 f250,4x4,esof,power windows door locks and remote entry.the goal is to get a gem that doesn't have to be programmed at the stealer. Can anyone help me out with how these part numbers work and/or tell me where to find something that will work? Thanks Al

When I got my 99.5 with 126K on it, the 4WD tried to engage/disengage at times, sounded like the whole rearend was trashing. Was told I needed a new GEM module, $360 plus a $100 to program it. I just switched the shift motor. That fixed that. Later I found out the windshield leaked, water ran down into the Gem, removed it and fixed what looked like corrosion on the circuit board, cleaned the connector, never had another problem for the last 60K miles. I was told, no matter what Gem I would get, it had to be programed for this specific vehicle. Just saying.

A used GEM off a truck with the exact configuration should be able to just be bolted in and work without programming, but a NEW GEM would have to be programmed.

Sorry for the highjack,Kevin,I have 2000f350lariat locks windows, mirrors cruise, electric seats. Not sure about anything else that might be on that.
My question is that mine has two ford remote lock unlock and think panic, but no key pad on door.
Now I have a remote on an alarm that I use to lock and unlock,so currently I don't use the ford ones.If my gem goes up which gem do I need of the ones out there that is what I have now?which is the orig.keyless entry but no key pad on door?

No matter what GEM you get, I think you will still need to reprogram your keyless entry system to recognize your key FOB. My truck came without any key FOBs and initially, I didn't even realize that some trucks didn't come with that capability. Anyhow, I confirmed the GEM was keyless entry compatible, got new FOBs off e-bay for $9 and reprogrammed them very simply. IIRC, I just switched the ignition from off to on, off to on,... five times within a few seconds and then the doors will automatically lock and unlock letting you know it's in program mode. Then you just press the lock button on your FOB and it's done which you can confirm by hitting the unlock button.

OK, did I miss the description on how to know when your GEM Module is Bad ? My truck has been experiencing the speedometer and odometer not working at times or the speedometer "bouncing". The Manual overdrive light blinking on the selector lever and the windows work as well as the defroster will run with the engine off and the key out of the ignition. I have experienced the interior lights not going off. Just today there was a buzzing from Relay #1 and it would not stop. I pulled it, and of course the horn started sounding until I put it back in.

I just ordered a NEW GEM Module should I have done that ?

Your speedo and odometer issues aren't caused by the GEM. But it does control the interior lights.

To really tell what's going on with the GEM you need to scan it with a capable scan tool. It'll cough up "B" diagnostic trouble codes to help with diagnosis.

Thank You Mr. klhansen, for the reply. I was getting a buzzing from the Relay #1 (Turn Signal/Hazard Lamp) yesterday too, so I went to NAPA and replaced it, however the HORN is now sounding intermittently and I had to pull the Horn Relay #3 to stop the horn from activating.

Now I have an intermittent vibration on the black box behind the fuse panel which I think to be the GEM module. I have read that these issues can be caused by a faulty GEM module am I wrong ? :read:

Will the AE Scanner do that?

Yes, AE will pull codes from the GEM and also run a few tests (like wipers and washer pump).

Buzzing relays are a sign of low voltage. It can sometimes make the electronics go wonky as well, making the things controlled by the GEM go on and off randomly. Check your batteries and the cable connections.

Normally I would agree with you , the batteries have been replaced, alternator replaces, starter replaced. We checked the draw on the batteries and it was a .05 not a major issue there. Cable connections are good at this time. The box on the back side of the fuse box (driver side is buzzing intermittently , I think that is the GEM module. The relay that I just replaced is NO longer buzzing (I was told when they start buzzing they are going bad (by ford).
