Hey all-

Now (upon more opinion and ifno from this site!) I'm in the market for shocks. A quick look around the net seems like $130 and up for 4 decent shocks. I do see some for $25ish per shock.

I know nothing about shocks other than their function. I have around $200 to spend. I don't need the Bentley of shocks, but I don't want crap either.

I tow about 5000 miles or so per year, and the rest of the time it's a daily driver. Just wondering what you guys think is my best bet in my price range.

Thanks yet again for the help.

One word.......... Bilstein! Cost a bit more but are worth every penny. I think you can get all 4 for around $260.

Monroe Reflex is a "car" shock. Monroe makes a better shock for our trucks = Monroe Gas Magnum. I can't tell the diference in ride -handling-performance between Monroe Gas Magnum and Bilstein. So that means Monroe Gas Magnum is more bang for the buck. :read:

Tenneco then after you reach the Monroe page click on products then on Gas Magnum Truck.

Nonsense! :nono: I'm surprise you didn't recommend the "MONRO-MATIC PLUS® SHOCK" It's the least expensive. All three products (Reflex, Gas Magnum and Monro-Matic) are listed for the F350. The Reflex is highlighted as a "Premium Product. How does that make it a car shock? You may like the Gas Magnum and that's ok, but keep it factual.

The Reflex does cost a bit more than the Gas Magnum...but if the Gas Mag works as well as Bilstein, looks like they're about $9 less per shock. :)

For $36 my money went to Bilstein. I do not know how Smokey drives. His is mostly a tow queen as I understand it. Driving off road or throwing your vehicle into a corner, the Bilsteins and a good front and rear sway bar make a huge difference.

Amen to what Horses said. I have had both, Monroe Reflex and Bilstein. Both are good shocks, but I definately give the edge to Bilstein, which in my opinion, are also better for towing.

Hate Hate Hate the Bilsteins in my truck. If they didn't cost so damn much I would use them as boat anchors.

For everyday on road driving they are harsh and annoying. Once your off road they are actually slightly better than my old factory shocks with 100K on them. I would not own another pair if they were given to me for free.

Any of our site sponsors sell Monroes? I can get the Reflex for about $180 shipped, and gas mags for $160 with my best deal so far online. Thanks for all the input!

40 bucks each is about right for the gas magnums. Some of the local auto parts stores will probably have them for $39.95 each. Monroe used to have a 4 for the price of 3 promotion once a year. But I can't remember what time of the year they did that.
